We are especially honored that the prestigious Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine has chosen Henderson and will be training Southern Nevada's future health care providers." The Henderson location is a branch campus of an existing Touro University medical school program located on Mare Island in Northern California. It is anticipated that within a few years, the Henderson campus will triple the number of medical students being trained in Southern Nevada. "This is particularly important since physicians are more likely to practice medicine in the geographic area where they received their medical and post-graduate education," added Cooper. According to Cooper, Nevada currently ranks 46th in the nation in the number of physicians per 100,000 residents due to the areas' extraordinary growth, as well as the number of doctors retiring or relocating. In addition to osteopathic medicine, TUCOM-NV's Physician Assistant program is dedicated to the education, development and growth of mid-level practitioners who will become integral members of a health care teams. The mission of TUCOM-NV is to prepare students to become outstanding Osteopathic Physicians who uphold the values, philosophy and practice of Osteopathic Medicine and who are committed to primary care and the holistic approach to the patient.
