April 2007 National expert to speak on benefits of magnet hospitals during Southern Nevada Medical Industry Coalition event May 15 Trofino of Joan Trofino Associates an expert on benefits of magnet hospitals Nationally known Joan Trofino will discuss how hospitals can achieve magnet status, as well as the growth, benefits and expectations for the clinical nursing staff, during a Southern Nevada Medical Industry Coalition (SNMIC) event Tuesday, May 15, from 7:30-9 a.m. Trofino, Ed. D., RN, CNAA, FAAN, is the president of Joan Trofino Associates, a health care and business consultation firm, and a national expert on the benefits of magnet hospitals. She will also discuss selected magnet outcomes that benefit organizations and the community. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the University of Southern Nevada, Nursing Classroom No. 400 - located at 11 Sunset Way, just off the intersection of E. Sunset Road and W. Sunset Road/Mountain Vista St. Reservations for the event are required and must be made by May 9, by e-mailing Morris Heldt at morris.heldt@cityofhenderson.com. Seating is limited. Trofino has extensive experience in the health care industry. She has held positions in clinical practices as a staff nurse, supervisor and director. She worked for 20 years as the chief nurse executive at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, New Jersey - a magnet hospital. She has also served as a graduate faculty in nursing administration and case management at Columbia University, Seton Hall University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she developed certificate and master's programs in nursing case management and nursing administration/leadership.
